Blog Day 436 - Thursday 10 June 2021 - Day 14 Lockdown Version 4 (extended)

Wild and wooly night in the old town last night, lots of rain and high winds.  Lots of damage from fallen trees in the hills, not so much around me.  Minor flood warnings around suburban Melbourne and more serious flood warnings around Gippsland.

I found an empty plastic baby bath in the middle of the road this morning which I put on the nature strip, I had a look around for the baby (in case somebody threw out the baby with the bathwater) but I didn't find anything.

An advertising hoarding at the local church had blown down, I wonder if they can make an insurance claim or is it an "act of god"?

Interesting story about the Victorian couple who left Melbourne after lockdown and drove to Queensland.  Initially it was only the female who tested positive to the corona virus after arriving in Queensland but now the male member of the pair has also tested positive.  Investigations are now taking place to determine if they had the appropriate permissions to travel.

Three New Zealanders have tried to sneak into NZ, now that's a story in itself.  But it gets better, apparently they drove to Sydney and then caught a flight to NZ.  Apparently because of the Victorian lockdown NZ had suspended flights from Melbourne so these people thought that they would get around it by flying out of Sydney.  Saint Jacinda is not happy and has put them straight into quarantine without any supper.

At 11.59pm tonight Victoria moves to lockdown version 4 (light).  We can travel up to 25 km from our home for any reason, still have to wear masks indoors and out, still no visitors to home, hospitality venues can open subject to restrictions and schools can reopen from next Tuesday.

Four new locally acquired cases reported in Victoria in the last 24 hours, a family of four from Reservoir all living in the same house.  The source of their infection is still unknown and investigations are continuing.  Queensland has recorded two new local infections, but to be fair to them these infections are probably the border runners from Victoria, at least it keeps our figures down.

In the last 24 hours Victoria received the results of 24,000 tests; NSW 20,000 and Qld 10,000.  Victoria administered 27,000 vaccine doses in the last 24 hours.

It would appear that the worldwide figures are currently looking good.  India is still showing dramatic reductions in the daily infection and death figures.  On 8/6 they recorded 86,000 new infections compared to a week ago when they reported 135,000. Likewise the daily death figures had dropped from 3,200 a week ago to 2,100 on 8/6.  Lets hope these figures are accurate and the downward trend continues.

Every other country on my table appears to be doing OK, even Brazil, except for the UK.  Compared to where they were a few months or so ago the UK figures look OK but the number of daily new infections has gone up from 3,100 a week ago to 6,000 on 9/6.
