Blog Day 446 - Monday 21 June 2021- Day 25 Lockdown Version 4 (extended lighter)

Apologies for the lack of blog over the last few days but I have been very, very busy with my preparations and training for my very, very important role in the upcoming Census.  Two days of face to face Zoom training tomorrow and Wednesday.

It is interesting in my discussions with people in my wider contact group, generally of a similar age to me, how a number of them haven't received their virus vaccination yet and are still hesitant to do so.  I haven't come across anybody yet in my cohort who is actively opposed to the vaccination but they are prevaricating about getting it.

I don't know anybody in my wider group of contacts who have had the vaccination, either the AstraZeneca or the Pfizer, who has had any serious side effects.  Some like me had a sore arm for a day or so, some reckon that they had mild flu like symptoms (in the head I reckon) and some had no ill effects at all.  I have heard 2nd hand of people having side effect serious enough for them to take a day or two of work, and you have to ask yourself are these people shirkers or were they seriously ill?

Anyway there shouldn't be any reason as far as I am concerned for eligible people to get vaccinated.

Getting even busier around here.  Just received a phone call from the AEC asking me if I would be available to work on a Federal election between August 2021 & May 2022.  Just remember you got the inside running from me but don't tell anyone.

There are a few more active local cases around Australia since I last reported.  In the last 24 hours Victoria reported one new local case who was already isolating in the Southbank apartment block that has been the site of a number of infections.  Excluding ROTs, Victoria now has 20 active local infection, hopefully all in isolation and under control.

It looks like NSW may be in a bit of strife with 2 new local infections in the last 24 hours bringing the Bondi cluster to 11.  Vitoria has declared seven suburbs in Sydney "orange" zones.  Anybody arriving in Victoria from one of these zones will have to go into 14 day hotel quarantine and be subject to a testing regime.

Qld reported an active local infection over the weekend which appears to have been caught in hotel quarantine.  An aircrew member who had been in quarantine for 14 days tested negative and was released only to test positive subsequent to her release.

Only 16,000 tests in Vic in the last 24 hours, which isn't enough and 25,000 test in NSW in the same period.

Vaccination numbers in Victoria are dropping off with the state and federal governments arguing about whose fault it is.

This is the first time I have had a look at the worldwide numbers for a few days and there is good news and bad news.  Overall the total world daily new infection and death numbers are dropping, but the usual suspects have still got problems.

Brazil is still reporting more than 80,000 new infections a day and over 2,000 deaths a day with no indication of any decline in these numbers.

The US infection figures are up, but they seem to have a habit of under recording for a few day which makes them look good and then they have a really bad day when the numbers catch up. Lets hope that this is the case here.  The US death numbers appear to be continuing a downward trend.

India's daily infection numbers and death figures are continuing a very impressive downward terns.

I can't understand why the UK hasn't pressed the panic button yet.  In the last 24 hours they recorded 10,000 new infections, this is up from 5,000 a day a fortnight ago and less than 2,000 a day in May.  They must be grateful that the death numbers have not increased dramatically as yet but if the infection numbers continue to increase an increase in deaths is sure to follow.
