Blog Day 466 - Sunday 11 July 2021
Given other onerous commitments for my time I was going to announce today the hibernation of the blog, but given the developments happening in Australia and worldwide I will keep it going a bit longer but probably on a more irregular basis. But please my gentle readers continue to drop in occasionally and keep up with developments both here and around the world. And to those of you who continue to provide funds and encouragement through my Go Fund Me Page please keep up the good work and continue to encourage quality, unbiased, balanced and reliable bloggism in these troubled times.
Of course the big virus news is the continuing spread of the virus in NSW. NSW had 77 reported new local cases in the last 24 hours, of these 50 were close family members of infected persons and 33 were circulating in the community whilst infectious.
The NSW premier has warned that they are expecting the daily infection figures to be reported tomorrow to exceed 100. The premier has also voiced her concerns that the people in the lockdown zones aren't taking it seriously enough. Apparently people are still socialising and ignoring the rules. The fact that there were 50 new infections resulting from mingling with already infected family members or close associates sort of confirms this.
What NSW needs to do is drop this "lockdown lite" and go for a full blown lockdown for 3 months like we had in Victoria and that might make the miscreants, and the rest of the state, sit up and take notice of the rules and restrictions.
I am getting the impression that a "hard" border lockdown between Victoria and NSW is inevitable, possibly very shortly. The health minister here has been warning Victorians still in NSW to get home as quickly as possible.
Unfortunately NSW has recorded one death, an elderly woman who was in hospital. This is the 2nd virus related death in Australia this year.
Victoria administered 20,000 vaccine doses in the last 24 hours, NSW 29,000 and Qld 14,000.
Victoria received the results of 23,300 tests in the last 24 hours and NSW nearly 49,000.
Currently there are 117 patients in hospitals Australia wide due to the virus, of these 17 are in ICU and 5 on ventilators.
I started to have a look at the worldwide figures but as they seem to be distorted by the usual weekend inaccuracies and as it is nearly drinky time here, I will look at them at another time. One thing that I did notice is that the UK daily new infections and death figures are continuing to rise, I wonder whether 19/7 is still "Freedom Day"!
