Blog Day 482 - Tuesday 27 July 2021 - Day 7 of Covid Lockdown V5.2
The last day of this lockdown V5.2 and the load has been lightened a bit so to speak. The premier has announced today a loosening of the lockdown restrictions, we might call it "Lockdown V5.3".
Travel restrictions within the state have been lifted and we can travel more than 5km from our home and we don't need a reason to travel. Schools are back tomorrow with face to face teaching, hospitality venues can reopen with density limits, all retail can open, still work from home where possible, offices can open for 25% of employees or a density of 1 person per 4 square metres.
Still no gatherings in private homes, although a bubble buddy or bonking buddy can visit. It doesn't look like there will be any spectators at sporting events in the foreseeable future. No crowds at the footy again I suppose.
Although not clear, on an initial reading it would appear that the new rules will be in place for a further fortnight from 11.59pm tonight.
Remember all the tough talk about the 3 removalists that breached the quarantine rules in travelling from NSW to Victoria and then on to SA, and how they were going to be named & shamed, hung, drawn, quartered and publicly humiliated, well they have received their punishment.......one of them has been fined $200 for not wearing a mask. That will learn em! Apparently on a further reading of the fine print they didn't break as many rules and regulations that the authorities thought that they did, so one of them got smacked on the wrist with a wet lettuce and the other two didn't even get that.
In the last 24 hours Victoria reported 10 new local infections, apparently all close contacts of known infectious people who have been in quarantine for their infections period. Unfortunately the news in NSW isn't so good with 170 new infections reported in the last 24 hours. These figures are as a result of 24,000 tests in Victoria and 84,500 tests in NSW.
Just as a matter of interest on 14/07 this year Victoria had 19 active cases and now has 187 and on 01/07 NSW had 235 active cases and now has 2,129. Goes to show how the virus can get away from you. As somebody once said "The price of freedom is eternal vigilance".
Worldwide things are rolling along since the last blog with some countries improving and some getting worse. Probably the worrying country is the one right on our doorstep, Indonesia is reporting 40 - 50,000 infections per day and 1,400 to 1,500 deaths per day. Anybody interested in a trip to Bali?
The UK is still reporting 30 - 40,000 infections per day but the death rate is fluctuating between 30 and 100 per day. Is the jury still out on whether 'freedom day' has been successful or not.
Of course all eyes are on the Olympics in Tokyo at the moment, in the last 24 hours Japan reported 5,000 new infections. There has been 133 reported infections at the games themselves during the period of the games and this includes athletes, staff officials etc.
Total Cases Tokyo 2020
| CATEGORY | CASES | VAR | NET |
|---|---|---|---|
| Athlete | 14 | 2 | |
| Games Personnel | 40 | 6 | |
| Media | 9 | 1 | |
| Employee | 3 | 0 | |
| Contractor | 66 | 1 | |
| Volunteer | 1 | 0 | |

| Total | 133 | 10 |
And don't you think that it is cute that they are still calling the Olympics "Tokyo 2020". Wouldn't be anything to do with the draconian copyright restrictions the IOC puts on everything Olympic based.
