Blog Day 543 - Sunday 26 Sept 2021 - Day 52 of Covid Lockdown V6.0 Extended

As a disinterested spectator I watched bits and pieces of the AFL grand final last night on the telly.  I don't understand why when the two best teams in the competition play in the grand final it often turns into a one sided route.   If it was Melbourne losing by that much one might have thought that they were tanking again, but Footscray doesn't have a reputation for that sort of thing, unlike the Demons.

I thought that the pre game and half time entertainments were quite good.  Having the entertainment performed in the evening certainly adds to it with the use of special effects, light shows and fireworks.  Even Meatloaf would have looked and sounded good with all that going on around him.

The lady who sang the national anthem was marvellous and she had great ti..... ti......ti......timbre.

What are the odds on the next grand final at the MCG, whenever that will be, being held at dusk or night time??

I have been doing gardening this morning if pulling up twenty years growth of ivy and other parasitic plants hits the definition of gardening.  My neighbour and I have decided to get a smallish section of side fence replaced and the whole area was heavily overgrown.  So I have been in there this morning with a small flame thrower, large chain saw, and various other implements of mass destruction giving it a good clean up, that is after chasing the pygmies out.  I wonder what the virus infection rate is amongst pygmies.

A photo of me when I was in the boy Scouts with a pygmy.

Nationally 75.4% of the eligible population have received their first vaccination and 51% are fully vaccinated.  In Victoria 76.9% of the eligible population have received their first vaccination and 47% are fully vaccinated.  Victoria still hasn't started on the long and winding road of the road map and will not do so until 80% of the eligible population has received one jab, this is now forecast as happening on Tuesday.

The first stop on the road map doesn't mean much for metropolitan Melbourne most restrictions will still apply including the curfew.  The main change will be that we will be able to travel 15km from home instead of 10km if we are attending to the six reasons for leaving home.

And amidst all of this the corona virus drags on.  Victoria reported 779 new infections in the last 24 hours and 2 deaths.  We received the results of 46,000 tests.

NSW reported 964 new cases in the last 24 hours and 9 deaths, from 106,000 tests.

Overall Victoria has reported 844 deaths for the pandemic, 22 of which have occurred in this third wave since 01/09.

NSW has reported 351 deaths for the pandemic of which 297 have occurred since 10/07, the start of their 3rd wave.

The premier of Victoria still isn't giving any credit for vaccinations being administered outside of the state hubs although they exceed those given by the state.  To date 6.8 million doses of vaccine have been administered in Victoria, 3.3 million by the state, 177,000 in the care system and 3.6 million outside of the state system.  Why is the state premier failing to give credit where credit is due?

Here is an interesting thing, the US reported 181,000 new infections for the 24 hours 25/9 and 2,735 deaths for the same period.  I have previously mentioned the inconsistencies of the US figures, it appears that the their new infection figures peak on a Saturday each week and the death figures peak on a Friday each week.  This must be something to do with the way the various states are collating and reporting their figures.

  1. I guess Andrew's isn't giving the feds any credit because they don't deserve any - We got shafted by the Prime Minister for NSW - with all those extra jobs going to NSW - and now because they didn't do the right thing, they will get out of lockdown before us. How is that fair?
Our state hubs do all the heavy lifting - almost as many jabs from our state hubs as in NSW. Where we've fallen massively behind is in the fed controlled GPs and aged care.
So yeah - stuff giving them any credit.

  2. We have no real statesmen or women any more. Just petty premiers who are on a power high playing politics. Hawke or Howard - either one in their prime, would have sorted the chooks!

  3. Andrew - From your subtle comments I gather you think that the feds have let our fair state down, if you look at the figures you will see that the well run and reliable Federal system, including GPs etc have jabbed more people in Victoria than the shambolic state system..... so there!

Roger - you missed Sir Robert Menzies he would have had the state premiers sitting up and taking notice.
