Blog Day 529 - Sunday 12 Sept 2021 - Day 38 of Covid Lockdown V6.0 Extended

My apologies for not making an appearance on the blog for a few days but I got word that due to a couple of things that I may have said about the Irish that the IRA had put a price on my head.  However as that price was 3 Irish Pounds and a pint of Guinness I wasn't too worried. But then again as the Irish would do almost anything for a pint of Guinness I thought that I had better lie low for a few days.

But back again now.

As you may have noticed on occasions I have been a little irritated with the state premier and iron handed flow of data and the manipulation of the data for political purposes, well the latest one is a doozey!

This morning in his press conference the premier was boasting about how 36,000 vaccine doses had been administered through the state vaccine hubs and he thanked people for going to the state clinics and how there were vacancies available at the state clinics.  He must have mentioned the "state" clinics a dozen times, not once did he mention that an equivalent number of people, if not more, were being vaccinated at care homes and by pharmacists and GPs, not run by the state.  Anybody listening would have got the impression that the 'state', hence the labor government was the only body caring for the people of Victoria.

In Victoria to date 2.8 million vaccinations have administered in state hubs, 164,000 in care facilities and 2.9 million by GPs and now pharmacies.  Will the premier mention this, I don't think so.

Remember the premier's little hissy fit a few days ago about Victoria not getting it's fair share of the vaccines, well how about these figures.  To date 66.9% of the eligible national population has received their 1st vaccination, in Victoria 65.5% and Australia wide 41.9% of the eligible population has received their 2nd vaccination and in Victoria 40.15%.

That's a difference of 1.4% and 1.75% in the 1st and 2nd vaccinations respectively.  I reckon that could be as a result of inefficiencies in the running of the state vaccination hubs, although the premier would definitely not agree with me.

So, back to some other covid figures.  In the last 24 hours Victoria reported 392 new infections resulting in 3,112 active cases in the state.  Of these active case 85% are less than 50 years of age.  In the last 24 hour Victoria received the results of 48,000 tests.  Victoria has 143 people in hospital due to the virus, 34 of whom are in ICU and 26 on ventilators.  One of the patients in hospital is fully vaccinated but isn't on ventilation.

NSW reported 1,262 new cases in the last 24 hours bringing to 15,798 active cases.  On 10/9 NSW adjusted it's active cases downward by 14,000 cases bringing their active cases down from 28,000 to 14,000, I don't know the reason for the adjustment.  NSW received the results of 105,000 tests in the last 24 hours.  Currently NSW has 1,206 patients in hospital due to the virus with 220 in ICU and 92 on ventilators, they also recorded a further seven deaths in the last 24 hours.

The rest of the country doing OK with the ACT the only other state or territory reporting new cases with 15 in the last 24 hours.

Worldwide the figures are continuing without much apparent change, the US reported 262,000 new infections and 4,409 deaths in the last 24 hours; the UK reported 37,000 new infections and 147 deaths in the same period.  Worldwide there were 631,000 new infections reported and 10,735 deaths in the most recent 24 hour period.
