Blog Day 558 - Wednesday 13 October 2021 - Day 69 of Covid Lockdown V6.0 Extended

Busy, busy, busy around here as usual.  This evening I have the AGM for Military History and Heritage Victoria group that I recently joined and I daresay drinks afterwards.

And, I have just received an email telling me that our U3A Maritime and Military History class is being resurrected via zoom this Friday.  

I haven't done a "what's in the pantry Graeme" for a while, so here we go.

What's in the pantry Graeme??

As you can see this is a delicious can of Simmenthal "ready to eat beef in jelly", hmmmmmm.  This is an Italian product made from the finest South American beef and has a use by date 09/07/2025 (there is a few carbon miles in this culinary delight).  This is replacing a tin of Spam that I recently ate out of my Armageddon food stockpile.  The best thing about this product is that I don't think anybody will try and steal it from me. 

Of the contents, 35% is made up of broth and cooked beef, but the good news is one of the other ingredients is marsala wine although the % of the marsala is unstated.  Sounding better all the time!

Open to suggestions as to how I could serve this!

There is an interesting article in the news today about a 17 year old girl who became infected with the corona virus.  She was unvaccinated and caught the virus from a younger sibling who bought it home from child care and every member of the family became infected.

This girl spent a month in hospital and nine days in a coma on a ventilator.  As they said in the article she will carry the scar of her tracheostomy for the rest of her life and probably some other scars as well.  Pretty nasty stuff, best if we can avoid it.

After a couple of days of reducing daily infections in Victoria the numbers have gone back up in the last 24 hours.  In the last 24 hours Victoria reported 1,572 new cases compared to 1,466 the previous day.  Of these cases 33% have occurred in the Northern suburbs, 25% in the Western suburbs, 25% in the outer South East and 8% in the regions.  

I don't know why but given the number of infections in the community the Victorian testing numbers seem to be remaining low.  In the last 24 hours we received the results of 79,000 tests.  By comparison although NSW are seeing their infection rates dropping they are still receiving the results of more than 100,000 tests per day.  In the last 24 hours NSW reported 446 new virus infections and 360 the day before.

Currently there are 705 Victorians in hospital due to the virus with 146 in ICU and 92 on ventilators.  There were 13 virus related deaths in Victoria in the last 24 hours.  The hospital, ICU and ventilator numbers are still increasing daily.

Australia wide 82.8% of the eligible population have received their 1st vaccine dose and 63.4% are fully vaccinated.  In Victoria the figures are 86.2% and 60.4% respectively.  Remember to be rewarded with Phase B of the Victorian roadmap we have to hit 70% of the eligible population being fully vaccinated.  When this happens I can line up with 100 other scruffy blokes for a haircut!
