Blog Day 574 - Monday 01 November 2021 - Day 03 of Covid Normal
The first day of a new month, full of hope and optimism for the future in a covid normal sort of way.
I believe that there maybe some sort of conference going on about the alleged issue of climate change, remember when it used to be called global warming. I can go even further back when it used to be called "weather". Is anybody else concerned that this climate change agenda is being driven by a strange teenage girl from somewhere in Scandinavia. This has a whiff of the children's crusade back in the 13th century when superstitious peasants still believed in visions and messages from god, looks like we haven't moved on very far at all. Joan of Arc was another strange teenage girl who had visions, and it didn't work out too well for her in the long run.
And don't get me started over the hissy fit being thrown Macron over the submarine deal. If I was going into battle would I rather have the British and Americans on my side or the Cheese Eating Surrender Monkeys, aka the French on my side. I will let you work that our for yourselves.
Let us forget all the doom and gloom stuff for a couple of days for tomorrow is Melbourne Cup Day. This is the race that stops a nation and is being run tomorrow with 10,000 punters allowed at the track, a bit different than the 100,000 or so that are usually there, but better than last year when the race was run in front of a crowd of absolutely zero.
I have transferred some funds from my meagre old age pension to my seldom used TAB account so that I can have a small flutter on the big race tomorrow. How few and simple are my pleasures these days.
I must admit that I have been enjoying a few of the new found freedoms available to us in these days of "covid normal". I got to drive down to Sorrento the other day to have a look at a holiday house that a friend of mine has just bought down there and yesterday I drove down to the other side of Geelong to visit some friends who I hadn't seen for some months.
And all done in glorious spring weather. It is going to be 24degrees today and forecast 30 tomorrow for the running of the cup.
I had a Shrine volunteer zoom meeting this morning when we given the run down on the reopening of the Shrine and the restarting of the volunteer program. The Shrine itself is reopening on Friday 5th November with a limit of 150 visitors indoors on site at any one time. It is not envisaged that there will any on site school tours for the rest of this year.
Volunteers will probably be returning to the Shrine from the start of the new year. In the meantime volunteers can be involved in running virtual tours for school groups until we can return in person.
Of course next Thursday (11/11) is Remembrance Day and the Shrine has permission for 3,000 people to attend a service on the forecourt, all attendees have to QR code in and be fully (double) vaccinated. Volunteers are welcome to attend the Remembrance Day service but not in an official capacity.
As I have to head out this arvo to attend to some business I won't do an update on the daily figures apart from the vaccination %s. Hopefully will look at the figures in a bit more detail tomorrow, between races maybe.
Nationally 88.2% of the eligible population has received their first dose and 77.2% is now fully vaccinated. More importantly, in Victoria, we have reached 80.3% fully vaxxed and 91.7% have received their 1st vaccination. I reckon these figures are pretty impressive, now it is time for the vaccine hesitant states to pull up their socks and get on with it, talking to you Queensland.
Pick a winner tomorrow and good luck to all.
I reckon it's all the southern hippies and anti vaxers on the dole in the sunshine state. However, having said that, I am astounded at the number of Queensland Health and Queensland Police Service personnel that have failed to declare their vaccination status. Of course, our Princess here has stood them down on full pay. Where is Henry Bolte when you need him?
ReplyDeleteAhhhhh, for the days of Henry Bolte, if we are going to have a dictator is should be a proper old time pollie like Bolte and his sidekick Arthur Rylah.
DeleteHave you had a hair cut yet
ReplyDeleteNearly today, but still a bit busy, but definitely tomorrow, come hell or high water.
