Blog Day 608 - Monday 06 December 2021 - Day 38 of Covid Nearly Normal

 I think that I mentioned a few days ago that the blog might be a little disjointed for the next few days and possibly weeks, whilst various real life activities get in the way.

Last week was a busy one with some lunches, evenings out and various social activities.  Yesterday, being Sunday, was a day of rest and I thought great, I will get the blog up to date, and guess what, the bloody NBN was down all day!

So, here we go again.

Back to a bit of virus stuff.  The TGA (Therapeutic Goods Administration) has given provisional approval for 5 to 11 year olds to receive a modified Pfizer vaccination.  This age group, when fully approved, will receive two Pfizer shots, both one third of the adult dose, three weeks apart.  It looks like this process will start in mid January before the little tykes go back to school.

The vaccination rates in Victoria and NSW have really hit the wall which I think was to be expected once we cracked the 90% mark for fully vaccinated folk in the eligible population.

Below are the vaccination percentages for the eastern seaboard states and nationally;

    State                1st Dose            2nd Dose

    Vic                    93.4%                91.2%
    NSW                94.6%                92.8%
    Qld                   87.3%                78.4%

    Aus                    92.8%                88.0%

The slowing down of the current vaccination rates in no way takes anything away from the good work done to date in vaccinating the population.  After a bit of a slow start we have vaccination rates that many countries would be jealous off.

Victoria still hasn't managed to grab the daily new infection rate by the balls, to put it crudely.  We are still reporting daily new infections of 1,000 plus most days compared to NSW reporting daily new infections in the 200 to 300 range.

Victoria recorded 1,073 new infection in the last 24 hours, 966 the day prior and 1,349 the day before that.  NSW reported 208, 281 and 323 daily new infections in the same period.  In the last 24 hours Victoria received the results of 56,000 tests and NSW 61,000 tests.

Our hospitalisation rates are creeping up slightly with 310 patients in hospital in Victoria with the virus of these 45 are in ICU and 19 on ventilators.  Death rates are creeping up slightly with 6 deaths in Victoria reported in the last 24 hours and 7 and 8 deaths in the two days prior.

Although Victoria and NSW started off from similar peak infections NSW has been successful in bringing down their daily numbers and keeping them down far more than successfully than Victoria.  As Professor Sumner Miller (no relation) used to say "why is it so"?

Maybe it is because NSW has a good strong Liberal government and not some dodgy bunch of union goons and party apparatchiks more concerned with how deep they can get their snout in the piblic trough.
