Blog Day 690 - Monday 28 February 2022 - Day 03 Even More Covid Nearly Normaller

Just when we think that we are overcoming one disaster with international repercussions as in the covid virus pandemic we get a mad man come along with access to nuclear weapons.

I have already written at length about the history and circumstances surrounding the animosity between Ukraine, Russia and the other Eastern European countries, so I won't go through all of that again.

Meanwhile locally, south eastern Queensland is experiencing record rainfall and flooding with seven people killed.  Remember when a climate change supporter stated with authority that the dams in SE Australia would never be full again.  This person whose name escapes me probably makes a better palaeontologist than a rainfall forecaster, it will be interesting to see if he admits that he was wrong.

Talking about events in Queensland, it is reported that a 14 year old boy died of box jelly fish stings over the weekend.  The unfortunate lad had two metres of stingers wrapped around his legs and died of cardiac arrest.

It is back to work day today with all restriction on people working in their workplace removed.  Hopefully this will make a big difference to the CBD as people return to their offices.  I daresay things will move a bit slowly to start with as people will be used to working from home and now reluctant to have to get up early, have a shower, put on clothes that don't have an elastic waistband and shoes that have laces and need a touch of polish every now and again.

And whilst the state is still experiencing 5,000+ new infections a day I think that workers will be hesitant to travel on public transport and share office environments.  Although some organisations, particularly the unions, claim that people are as productive working from home as they are working in the office, I for one do not believe it.

No doubt a lot of workers will work some sort of work from home and office hybrid which may suit all parties.

It is interesting that lots of people are still wearing masks, both indoors and outdoors even though it is not compulsory any more.

Talking to some friends of mine recently and it looks like our annual campin & fishin trip to Lake Eildon is on again in the next few weeks.  I am in the market for a new tent, one that I can stand up in.  Last year I found having to crawl in and out of my tent and not being able to stand up in it hard work.

Anaconda, BCF and other camping stores are all advertising stand uppable tents that can be erected in two minutes, two minutes my arse!  I will believe that when I see it.  BCF have an interesting tent, it has a inflatable frame, I might have to have a look at that, and it probably floats as well.

For the last 30 years or so I have suffered with wet boots and feet getting in and out of boats, so this year I am buying a pair of gumboots, yes, I know, I catch on pretty quickly.

As you can see from the tables below, not much has changed with the covid figures.  The vaccination rates are going up slowly but steadily, the new daily infection figures are coming down slowly but surely and the death numbers are remaining basically the same.

Hopefully the death numbers will start to decrease and then all the numbers will be heading the right direction.
