Wednesday 13 July 2022

First, the bad news, yes gentle reader I am taking a bit of time off over the next couple of weeks so that the blog may be irregular or non existent during this period.

Now, the good news, I am taking a bit of time off over the next couple of weeks.  Might even fit in a few days in balmy FNQ.

Got the results of my blood tests back today and everything is in perfect working order (as the Scotsman said when he was asked if there was "anything worn under the kilt")?  And much to the surprise of some, myself included that even includes liver and kidney functions.

Has anybody got a dog that they would like to hire out for a few hours one day.  There is a cat lurking around my place and it is making itself more and more comfortable day by day.  The other day it was lying down on the roof of my car, the cheeky bugger.

Below are some photos of said cat!

Have I mentioned in the past that I am not overly fond of cats, looking at these photos you can understand why.

Our new health minister is certainly making a name for herself in a very short period of time.  Last week, just days after her appointment, she said at a media conference that she couldn't say that there wouldn't be new mask mandates in the future.

Although on holidays, he who must be obeyed, must have heard this for the very next day the new minister for transport gave a media conference in which he said very specifically that there will be no new mask mandates. Would have been interesting to be a fly on the wall around the discussions that prompted that announcement.

Remember, four of our new ministers in senior posts have recently been appointed by the premier, so who are they beholden to, certainly not the good folk of this fine state of ours.

The new health minister has also told us today that despite the advise of the various state health officials that masks should be mandated to be worn in various places such as schools etc, she is going to ignore this advise and the the government will "encourage" people to wear masks.

She stated that she has made this decision after discussions with various business leaders in the community whom she has declined to name.

Oh, and the government is going to "suggest" that people work from home again but this will also not be mandated.  (I wonder given the government's woke policy on various things that they don't want to use the word mandate due to the first three letters of the word, just wondering).

Sometimes, after life seems to be getting back to some level of normalcy we forget that we are living in cloud cuckoo land.

Back to the figures, at least with the numbers we have cold hard facts to work with, the figures can't be manipulated, can they!

In the last 24 hours Victoria recorded 11,176 new covid infections, this is our highest daily figure since May of this year. NSW had a daily increase of 10,622 and Qld 7,500.

In the last week Victorian hospitalisations due to covid have increased from 523 patients to 739.  (Remember when 400 covid patients was the trigger point for a Code Brown being called in the health system.  I can't see our new health minister going out on a limb and calling a code brown after the bollocking she probably got over her recent masks gaffe). Currently there are 36 of these patients in ICU and 5 on ventilators.

Victoria recorded 20 covid related deaths in the last 24 hours and 80 deaths in the last 7 days.  Some people are suggesting that these people died with covid not because of covid.  We have now been advised that 90% of the covid related deaths die because of covid and 10% die with covid.

Qld currently has 859 covid patients in hospital and 14 in ICU, they recorded 12 deaths in the last 24 hours and 65 deaths in the last week.

I had a look at the Qld figures as I will there sometime shortly and I wanted to see what I am getting myself in for, unfortunately looks a bit similar to Victoria.
